A Richmond woman who struck a teenager with a lamp received a suspended jail sentence Tuesday in Wayne County Superior Court III.

Christine Lear, 68, pleaded guilty to a Class B misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct in accordance with terms of a plea agreement reached with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Judge Darrin Dolehanty sentenced her to 180 days in jail with all of that time suspended.

Lear admitted to striking a juvenile male early in the morning of July 20 at her home on the first block of South West Fourth Street.

According to Richmond Police Department reports, Lear called police to her home at about 3:15 a.m. because she was having problems with a 14-year-old girl in her home. The girl was suspected of having a boy in the house with her, so Lear and the responding officer went upstairs to investigate.

Upon arriving upstairs, Lear found the male sitting on stairs leading to an attic and began smacking him as the officer tried to stop her, the RPD report said. She then picked up a lamp and cracked it when striking the male in the chest.

When the officer again tried to stop her, she struck the officer in the right side and the right arm, the report said.

Lear initially was taken to the Wayne County Jail on felony charges of battery on a juvenile and battery on a police officer but formally was charged July 24 with misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
